So, 2 days ago I got back into PC gaming after a break. I'm having loads of fun, however, my system can't handle most games anymore. I love realistic shooters like Escape From Tarkov and Squad, but those games just don't run smoothly on my PC. My question to you is: Would you sell my PC, or would you just upgrade the GPU. I thought about buying a GTX 1070, but then again, my motherboard does not support safe CPU overclocking. Hope you guys can come up with a creative solution! Current specs below:

CPU: i5 4670K with aftermarket cooler (mugen something)
GPU: MSI GTX 760 OC edition
Motherboard: MSI B85-G41 Pc Mate
Storage: 1TB HDD
RAM: 8GB DDR3
Voeding: CoolerMaster 600W

Solution
Try this test:

Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

You may find you need both cpu and gpu upgrades.
In that case, I think I would improve graphics first since your games are fast action shooters.

At this point in time, I think I would not replace the motherboard in order to overclock.
I think you would find a i5-9600K and a Z390 motherboard would be all you could usefully use.
