Should I upgrade the CPU in a Dell XPS 2010

I just got a broken Dell XPS M2010, for absolutely nothing. The gpu needed to be reflowed, so I did that. The system is know fully working.

Current Specs

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83ghz
GPU: ATI Radeon X1800
RAM:4gb DDr2 6400
HDD: 80gb sata

I am wonder how much of a performance boost the T7600 would have over the T5600. They only have a ~300~ difference in passmark scores. Is that a noticeable difference. It can play youtube videos with only a few shutters everyonce in a while. Will the T7600 fix this?.

I am amazed with this machine so far, a good battery and a 20inch screen.

I just bought a new laptop, that meets all my need for video editing and school. I have a use for this M2010 if I can get it running smoothly. The cpu is only 52$ on ebay, its very tempting. My question though still will the extra 300 points in passmark make a noticeable difference.

Benchmarks are benchmarks. Real performance might differ from benchmarks. If you just bought a laptop that meets all needs, then I'm not sure if the cpu investment would be worth it.

This system is going to be used as a presentation/media system. I think that it will be worth it, the performance is currently good enough. I think that a slightly better processor will smooth out some of the shutters. The current processor is only a 32bit, upgrading would allow me to fully use the 4gb of ram.

If you do upgrade the CPU, be sure that the motherboard is compatible with the CPU, and make sure you can mount the cooler properly!

All core 2 cpu's have 64 bit capability. You are limited by the OS, ram wise, as most likely the system has XP on it.

All core 2 cpu's have 64 bit capability. You are limited by the OS, ram wise, as most likely the system has XP on it.

The system has a t5600 core 2 duo. That is a 64bit cpu. I got it confused with another cpu that is similar but 32bit. I have also loaded Windows 7, which is working flawlessly. The system originally had xp on it, I ran DBAN on it.

The maximum cpu I can put in this system is the t7600 or the t7600g. The later has an unlocked multipler. Both I know will fully function with this computer.
