[SOLVED] Should I upgrade to 2080 Super now or wait for prices to drop when Nvidia 3000 series release?

Hi, I wanted to ask whether it was worth upgrading to a 2080 Super at this current time or not. I'm not 100% sure if the prices for them are good at the moment or whether I should wait until the 3000 series come out and the 2000 series reduce in price.

I've been looking for a while now and they seem to be around £700 give or take.

Currently I'm using a Asus 1060 6gb OC edition but the main monitor I use (1440p, 144hz) doesnt run games at a respectable level. I do have a second monitor (1080p, 60hz) but since its slightly to the side of me I can't comfortable game on it - also its not so enjoyable once I bought and starting using my 1440p/144hz monitor.

I can be pretty impatient but if the price will significantly drop when the newer cards come out then I may be prepared to wait. I couldnt find any solid information as to when the Nvidia 3000 series cards will be released.

Also if I shouldnt wait, which 2080 Super would you guys suggest or an alternative? I would rather buy new so I have warranty to fall back on if anything goes wrong. My budget is around £600-700. These were the two cards I was currently interested in:

i’d say wait till the 30 series releases and get one of those instead assuming it’s better price per performance

I’d wait. I have a 2080 Super that I picked up for £609 last November. While it’s ok for 1440p 144Hz heavy AAA games use a lot of medium settings to average 120+ FPS with Ray Tracing off. Hopefully the the new £600-£700 3000 series cards will outperform the 2080 Super, that’s a reasonable expectation. Also 3000 series is supposed to have massive gains in Ray Tracing performance. Personally I’m already considering an upgrade as I feel I am sacrificing many settings to hit 120+ FPS.

Nvidia generally doesn't reduce prices (significantly) on existing models. New models get released with reduced prices (better price/performance ratio), but old ones stay about the same.
