I own a PC with a i5 6500 and a GTX 1050ti currently. I play games such as fortnite and csgo, but I’m looking to play at 144hz. Here are my questions: Will the i5 6500 be a bottle neck and is it worth upgrading to and is it worth the upgrade?

Solution
I do not have a 144hz monitor, with the lowest settings in fortnite I get around 100 frames. If I do decide to purchase the 1660 ti I will also a purchase a 144hz monitor. Do you think it’s worth buying or not?

What is your monitor now? 60 Hz? Full HD? It is definitely worth to buy a Freesync or G-Sync monitor. And you will be able to get good framerates you want with that monitor. I play Battlefield, and after upgrading to a FreeSync monitor my KD climbed from 0.86 to 1.01.

First buy the new monitor, use it and then decide to move to a new GPU I would say. I am a fan of IPS monitors, however it is up to you to decide, see them in a showroom, and then decide.

I have a samsung 60hz 1080p monitor, buying a monitor before the GPU is a great idea when thinking about it. If I do decide to purchase the monitor, should I purchase the 1660 or 1660ti IF I need it. Thanks for the informative reply.

If I was in your place, I would first buy a IPS QHD 144 Hz monitor. They are expensive by the way. Then decide how to continue. If you have budget, think about RTX 2070. If not both are OK, if the difference is not much go with 1660Ti.

I do have a budget unfortunately, monitor around $250-$300, do you think the Acer KG271A 27” 144hz is a good option for my budget? Depending on the performance, then I can decide if I need the GTX 1660. Also, I think the RTX 2070 will bottleneck my i5 6500.
