Should i upgrade to broadwell or wait for Skylake? (AMD Phenom II X4 B55 3.2 GHz)

I was preparing to upgrade to sandy bridge when I bought my rig in 2011 and that's why I chose some components that kind of bottle-necked the rest, but when I did i realized that's really all I needed at the time. However, in the upcoming year the next gen consoles are coming out which means that the next gen games will demand a higher amount of graphics and processing speed. I might be able to push through 2014 but i'm still in between broadwell or wait for skylake in 2015. What do you all think? Thanks for any useful comments guys!

Here is my set up:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 B55 3.2GHz
GPU: HIS Radeon 6950 2GB (not overclocked)
PSU: Antec 850 Watts
Memory: Patriot 4GB DDR3 1333 GHz
Mother board:ASUS M4N68T-M V2 AM3
Hard Drive: Samsung SSD 830 series 120GB for OS & 2.5 TB WD for storage

Guess it just depends on finances for ya. You know how computers and electronics in general are, you get something new and on the way home from buying you see the advertisement for the next thing. They say skylake will be DDR4 but who knows about that. Maybe grab another 4gb stick of ram and call it good for while until you see broawell performance, then decide on the switch or wait for skylake. As far as I've seen broadwell will still be DDR3 so that ram you have would still be of use. Thats what I would do.

Either your a consal user or your not I still belive the best gaming is on the good old pc so what is it your really trying to do with the system you have now?

You can always upgrade or build another box but you will always wait for MS or sony for there latest or greatest consal.

I mean I mostly play games, but I use it for college assignments and browsing the internet. I don't really listen to much music or edit videos. For now this rig suffices for my current needs, but I was concerned about sky-ake being a huge step from haswell or broadwell. Since haswell wasn't a real upgrade for desktop users anyway.

From what I've seen the change from Ivy to Haswell isnt enough to make me want to switch. I've read that alot of places too. Although haswell is good. Going from that phenom to haswell would probably be a nice upgrade.

If that were the case I would rather stick with ivy. Cheaper and not much different from haswell (Haswell focuses on mobility tablets,laptops, etc....).

haswell hasnt proven itself yet this is coming from a user from another camp whos considering intel but it would be ivy for me if it was today.

I am planning to upgrade around spring 2014, but I would wait till 2015 for skylake if it was worth it.

always wait and see dont need to bite at the neswest and greatest sometimes the worm sucks or product.. wait for others to test this theroy or jump right in there and take a 50/50 chance your happy you did. you do know intel is going to a soldered based chip no upgrades?

If your feeling like performance is struggling, I would be thinking about buying a hyper212+ cpu cooler and OC'ing that CPU and get some more ram. Maybe update the vid card if you feel like games are struggling.
