My current specs:

i7 4790k
16GB RAM
MSI DUKE GTX 1080 TI
SAMSUNG 860 PRO SSD

Would it be worth the investment if I went R2 2700x? Or should I just stay in the intel side and keep the 4790k for now?

Solution
Unless you require the additional performance or cores/threads I'd stay with the 4790K as it's still a excellent CPU. I'm still using a 4770K that still works great for my gaming/multitasking.

I went from an i7-4770k to i7-7600k to i7-7700k, and to be honest those upgrades have seemed a bit "Meh". I do a lot of video encoding and one can never have enough as well as like gaming at maximum settings. The Intels, just seem to run as overclocked versions of the previous generation would. I also picked up a Ryzen 7 1700, and while I am impressed with it's multicore performace at it's power draw compared to the hot Intels, it is also "Meh". To me. The intels are all on a 360MM water cooler. The Ryzen on the included fan.

I have some benchmarks using CPU-Z of those.
