Should i upgrade to windows 7 on my old computer?

i'm running windows xp on my old computer

specs:
-Pentium Dual-core(Pentium D)
-512 mb of DDR2 V-GEN RAM
-Nvidia 6600GT
-80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD

should i upgrade to windows 7 ultimate?
or what version of windows 7 should i upgrade to?

You also need to check on the PC or motherboard maker's website to see if they have released Windows 7 drivers for that model, otherwise some devices may not work. They probably have released Win7 drivers for it, but don't take it for granted - - check first, otherwise you could be scouring the internet for weeks trying to find compatible drivers.

Whilst Windows 7 does have a good driver library built in for many popular components & devices, you'd have to be very lucky indeed not to have to provide at least a couple of them from other sources.

And you'll definitely need more RAM - 4GB minimum for decent performance in general use (ie not gaming).

my ram is a ddr2 pc-4200, its rare and the stores doesn't sell it anymore

Yes. That's a sign for an upgrade. You could go for 4gb DDR3 ram, if your motherboard support DDR3 and the memory. Which is your motherboard?

Ultimately, you need to "upgrade" to a whole new system.

Your current system uses DDR2. You can't just put in DDR3 RAM.
Among all the other problems with your system.
