Hi,

I am getting a workstation from Dell with Win-11 for Workstation & they are going to configure everything in factory before shipping & then come to my place & install it because they say I have ordered " ProDeploy " which I didn't but it showed up later in quote. I had asked only for onsite basic installation to make sure that everything is running because last Workstation I had ordered 2 months ago didn't work despite Dell's 7 technicians & engineers worked on it online & in person for two months but couldn't make it work & finally they took it back. I am not running any business & this system is for my personal use.

But they are asking me not to get Win-11 with 22H2 update because they say it is unstable so they are advising me to go for Win-11 without 22H2.

(1)
So my question is, if that is true & what kind of problems you guys are having with Update 22H2 ?
(2) Am I going to miss out on any new features in 22H2 & what they are.
(3) If I insist on Win-11 with 22H2 & if any problem whether hardware or software arises soon or in future they will blame me & say " We had warned You "

Please advise.
Thank You

Windows for workstations would have a different update process
its unclear if the workstation version is released yet. Features may include - https://techcommunity.microsoft.com...-pros-in-windows-11-version-22h2/ba-p/3631904

or do they mean its just normal win 11?

1 the problems could be specific to the devices, there are problems with Nvidia drivers AFAIK. From what I can tell its not unstable.
2 its a free update to 22H1 so you can get it when its ready, its free. its just an update, its not going to cost more to get it later. You not really missing anything now by not getting it.

3 I would do as Dell suggest as there might be drivers they need to release that works with 22H2. They have to fix it as they can't avoid 22H2 forever

Colif, excellent insight you have on Win-11. I am still reading the links but will get back to you. Thank you so much.
Forgot that Trophy so double post. I am afraid to delete, since I don't want to delete that Trophy.

Untill yesterday they were saying it is Windows-11 Pro for Workstation and the quote they gave me says clearly Windows-11 Pro for Workstation ( 6 Cores ) but when I asked him again today, he said it is Win-11 Pro Vanilla because he sensed that is what I wanted.

Even Website says it has to be Win-11 Pro for Workstation.

But it seems the guy is in a hurry & keeps calling to give him the permission to send the order to factory for production. I have already paid for it but they still need my permission & choose from various options as to what I want to be installed. I told him I will get back to him & need one more day. Here are the options he sent me in an email :
  • Load a generic/ready Image
  • Load an Image: WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist.
  • Custom BIOS configuration
  • BIOS Logo Flash - Please provide us with the logo preferably in black background in BMP format (256 color) with a resolution of 640 x 480 upto 2 mb size.
  • Asset Label/Tagging – samples below.
  • Standard Asset Report
  • Onsite Installation

As far as update 22H2 goes he says it is not there as of today but by the time I get the system ( 2 to 4 Weeks ) it might be available to download.

This is the reason I come to this site & people like you to get an unbiased opinion.

So what was your question of me?

The main differences between Pro for workstations & Pro are:
Persistent Memory - the most demanding apps and data get to be supplied with the performance that they need. This is done with non volatile memory modules *NVDIMM-N) hardware
SMB Direct - Provides support for the use of network adapters with RDMA to perform at full speed with really little latency, while using minimum CPU for faster file sharing
Resilient File System - Recognises when there is corrupt data on any of the mirrored drives and then uses an uncorrupted copy of your data on other drivers to rectify and protect data
Source

If you don't need any of that, get Vanilla Pro

BTW. The 6 cores mentioned in the specs actually means 6 CPU. The number of cores on each CPU doesn't seem to have a limit.

Load an Image: WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist.

Ghost = clone
Image assist - https://www.dell.com/en-au/dt/services/support-deployment-technologies/image-assist.htm#scroll=off
I don't have any comment on rest of options, its up to you.

some of this could be too much information :)

Depends which version of 11 he is talking about.
I just don't know about Workstation as it is on a different release chain to Home & Pro. It appears the WIn 11 iso might include the update for it as well (see link below)
22H2 is out now for Home & Pro, you can download it right now... if you wanted to: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

He might be talking about when dell get a copy. I would have thought they got an RTM copy before it was released to the public.

Thank you so much for talking time for all this extremely technical stuff.
I work with stock charts & data is extremely important. Wrong data-->Wrong Charts-->Wrong decisions--> $$$--> down the drain.
So I guess it wouldn't hurt to get Win-11 Pro for workstation ?

I would as its the most feature rich version and if you find you don't need it later you can downgrade to Pro.
You have already paid for the PC so might as well get the Workstation version since it doesn't cost any more.

I don't know exactly but there is a chance you have to set up Resilient File System, I am not sure if its on by default.
