Should I Upgrade?

Right now I'm sporting an 32LG30 720p HDTV. It's a 32' inch monitor with a dynamic contrast ratio of 12,000:1. It would seem that the resolution is fixed at 1366X768 which is a problem since I will be using it for PC gaming needs now.

I'll be getting a new gaming PC in a month or two, waiting on the new ATI 5*** series to be released. Should I replace my monitor or is there someway to tweak the 32LG30. I've messed around in the menu and there doesn't seem to be a way. When I hook it up to my laptop via HDMI I can change the resolution to 1600X900 but the aspect ratio will compensate giving me a smaller screen like you see with 1080p HDTV going to 720p for TV channels.

Will I be able to change the resolution to a higher setting with a 4890 for example? Or am I doomed with 1600X900 as my highest resolution setting while having a shrunken screen? :pfff:

Thanks in advance, RIOT

You cannot increase the resolution of a HDTV or any LCD monitor above it's maximum or native resolution. Period.

Setting 1600 x 900 is a waste since what will actually happen is the resolution will shrink down to fit the screen. In effect you are not getting 1600 x 900 at all. You are actually getting less than 1366 x 768 by doing so. The best thing to do with your current HDTV is to actually set the resolution to 1366 x 768 for games.

If you want 1920 x 1080 then buy an 1080p HDTV.
