It all depends on your requirements. If you have NT or Windows 2000 (which I`m sure you do) then I`d upgrade the HD`s to ATA100`s and get more ram, but your dual P3`s are fine....for now.

Although are you running your bus @ 100 or 133mhz? The Mb is a bit dated....

Ahhh....yes update the whole thing....new Athlon 1.33...ultra scsi....no wait....no carry on....but then again...

Your new hardware is out-of-date

i'd go for mobo first, then hard drives after. Your current mobo might not support ata 100.

He could get a ATA100 PCI controller card much cheaper than a new Mobo.

If you take a truth and follow it blindly, it will become a Falsehood and you a Fanatic.

no. if you don't know whether or not to upgrade, you probably shouldn't yet. you didn't say it was slow, so stick with it. a lot of new stuff is coming out. wait a while longer.

Anyone upgrading their CPU today would be foolish, just aound the corner is Northwood & Palomino which will provide an explosion in price/performance benefits over the next few months (wether it be old or new CPUs).

The NT family always loves more ram, which will also take stress off your disks.

I was thinking doing this:

[$0.00]dual p3 700 / 100mhz --> stay
[$0.00]supermicro 440gx --> stay
[$250.00]256mb PC133 --> 512mb PC133 (4 x 128mb)
[$300.00](2)40gb ATA100 + PCI RAID CARD = RAID 1
------
[$50.00]SB16 ---> SB live! value
[$80.00]SiS 8mb AGP ---> ATi Radeon VE
------
[$200.00]WinNT4 ---> Win 2k (Full)

$880.00 around that price.

"[$250.00]256mb PC133 --> 512mb PC133 (4 x 128mb)"

If you are getting 4 128 MB modules of PC133 RAM for $250 then you are paying way to much. 128 modules of PC133 only run about $30. whichs equates to $120. Take the extra money you have figured in and buy a better video card.

First of all, the PC133 will not give you any benefits, because your system cannot run above 100MHz memory bus, so keep you old memory and get more (unless your upgrading form Cas3 to Cas2 or something). Second, the Radeon LE is a much better card than the VE for the same price

Well, you should be able to use PC100 or PC133. Since you may want to be able to migrate that memory to your next system, you can make it PC133, but it will only run at PC100 speed on your current system. More important is to get Cas2 memory, as it is faster than Cas3.
