my current system
i7-4770k 3.5 ghz no overclock
gtx 1060 6gb
16 gb ddr3 ram
2 tb system memory

system plan on upgrading too
ryzen 7 2700k
gtx 1080ti 11gb
500 gb m.2 ssd and hybirid 1tb hd
16gb ddr4

i i originally purchased my system from cyberpower in 2015. it had a gtx 760 and 8 gb of ram but i have done upgrades since then. with the new rtx cards being released the 1080 ti has became more affordable and im wondering if i should build a new system or wait for my system to age a bit when there are better deals like Christmas time.

Your CPU is still rather capable, and is not all that far behind the current generation of CPUs in terms of per-core performance. If you're not live-streaming your gameplay, a quad-core with hyperthreading like that should still run current games rather well, and it will likely be some years still before a significant number of games start to really benefit from having 8 physical cores, by which point there should be a good selection of 7/10nm CPUs to choose from.

It would probably be worth waiting on the platform upgrade for now, and just looking at a graphics card upgrade and maybe an SSD for the time being. Upgrading the CPU, motherboard and RAM would just about double the cost of the upgrade, but the additional performance gains...

Upgrading the CPU, motherboard and RAM would just about double the cost of the upgrade, but the additional performance gains in most existing games would likely be minimal.

Also, what kind of resolution and refresh rate does your monitor have? If it's just a 1080p 60Hz screen, than you might also want to upgrade that to get much benefit out of a GPU that powerful.
