Should I use a HD 6670 1gb

Hey,

this is my first post here and I need some advice.

My PC is starting to get old and my GPU is kinda outdated( for games like Deus Ex, Hitman Absolution en Bioschock Infinite.


Current PC specs:

PSU : Aopen Z400-08FC (http://global.aopen.com/products_detail.aspx?Auno=2530)
Motherboard: intel dg31pr
CPU: intel core 2 dou e8400 3.00ghz
RAM: 2*2gb 800mhz kingston
GPU: nvidea geforce 8400 GS 256mb(on the card itself stand PNY)
harde schijf: green sata 1TB van Western Digital
monitor: acer V223W LCD (Ahttp://support.acer.com/acerpanam/monitor/0000/Acer/V223W/V223Wsp2.shtml)

I wish to replace my current GPU with SAPPHIRE HD 6670 1GB DDR3 1Gb (http://www.pixmania.nl/nl/nl/1197696...1-gb-ddr3.html).

Is this possible and should I(worried about bottlenecking)?
Should I replace the PSU or could it hold?
I wouldn't mind suggestions about PSU.

The PSU should hold, however, the HD 6670 is getting quite outdated as is my HD 6850 (Going to replace with HD 8870). May I recommend the HD 7750, it seems an excellent budget card and is only £20 more than the HD 6670. This will ensure it keeps up to date with new games for longer. Also it has excellent efficiency which will give you some extra life out of you PSU

That does seems very nice but does it work well with 1680 x 1050 resolution?
I keep reading that at certain resolutions some card doesn't work very well.

The D7750 will be able to handle almost all of todays games fine at that resolution on medium/high settings. We recommend that you increase your ram to 2GB and upgrade to a 64 bit version of Windows 7.

Like haider said the HD 7750 is a excellent handling card and will easily work with 1680 X 1050, hope that helps.

I wouldn't buy a 6670 when a 6770 is sometimes had for the same price and is much more powerful while a 7750 is had for only a few bucks more.

And what about the 5400RPM Hard Drive guys... Do you think it can handle the job?

For OS and Applications the answer is no for gaming, some of the WD greens can get decent read/writes but they must be allowed to spin up (two-four seconds).

Well thanks guys , I now have a pretty good idea of what to do.

And about the hard drive issue, I stil have a bleu western digital 250gb 7200rpm(was original in the pc).
I switched to green because of lack of (virtual) space and is more energy efficient than the old one.
So if i use the old drive as a game drive then it should probally help.
Is there a way to use the faster(250gb) drive by starting up?
It's always better when you don't have to wait fo your pc. 😀

If you mean using the Hard Drive in dual boot(?), it's easy editing the boot loader with EasyBCD. It's even possible to disable the Green Caviar when it's not being used. The Control Panel power options can help to a degree but through hardware seems more convenient.
