Should I use mx-2 on my 4890?

Looking for some cooler temps. Even if it's minute. Was considering slapping on some as5 i have laying around but some googling reports that mx-2 is superior. If so I may reapply it on the cpu as well. Thanks in advance guys.

Before stripping the card down and invalidating your warranty you should check these point first:
How is the airflow in your case? Small cases and powerful graphic cards do not always play nicely together. Try adding a lower front intake fan to the case or swapping the one you have for something with higher flow.
Most HD4890s' come with the reference cooler if yours is reference try turning the fan speed up (open CCC, click on 'Overdrive', click on the padlock icon to unlock Overdrive, select 'manual speed control' and set the fanspeed slider to what you want then 'apply' to lock the setting).

Putting warranties aside, as I'm not sure yet as to whether xfx will be okay with a tim replacement. I'm pretty positive they are since they rma'd an 8600 with as ceramique just fine.

The case has more than adequate airflow, two 120mm's in front, one in back, 3x80's on left side and 1x80 on the right. It's a fairly roomy mid tower.

When oc'ing I turn the fan up to 50-60. Otherwise it's down at auto.

The main reason Im contemplating the tim replacement is for a lower core temp. That's it.

You did not mention fans/case etc so I covered those issues blind
Go ahead, it will not hurt, but check the warranty before hand, just to make sure.
Adding a premium thermal past can drop the temperatures by several degrees for a CPU so expect similar results for a GPU.
