I am very new to hardware as I come from a software background but am moving into systems security and the pentesting world.
I am looking to build a home lab server to load 20 -30 virtual machines running both Windows and Linux OS's to dissect malware and test vulnerabilities as well as building virtual networks for pen testing scenario's.
My budget is preferably less than 1500 CAD but can go up to 2000 dollars if needed.
The first question that comes to mind when looking at builds was whether ESXI currently is supporting Ryzen CPU's as the extra cores seems like probably the way to go for virtualization but I have heard that ESXI and a lot of linux server editions have some compatibility issues with Ryzen CPU's.
Thanks advance for any advice,
Ben
