Question Should I wait to buy gpu for the RDNA3 release?

I was just about to buy a rx6650rx for a really good price (285$), when I realized rnda3 is going to be released next month.

Now while I would not want to buy the most cutting edge gpu the rx7000 is going to release, im wondering whether the release of the 7000x series will drop the prices for the 6000x (or perhaps even raise them? is that a possibility?)

I don't mind waiting if it means the prices could be dropped, I just don't want them to raise somehow.

Any suggestions?

I have noticed some of the card prices are dropping now in anticipation of the 7000 series release in November. The actual cards may not show much before Xmas.

So its possible prices will drop. I can't see them going up as shops want to get rid of old stock to sell people the new ones.

I am wanting a 6800xt or 7800xt. prices have dropped on most 6800xt but not all models yet.

drop by small pennies if on entry level gpu.

learn from nvidia 4000s release. How many people get upset because expecting further crash?

and from the history, people should now be able to forecast the coming AMD RX 7000s prices

LIKE, for example, 7800, will potentially be 10-15% cheaper than 3080, because AMD loves putting themselves behind intel for cpu and behind nvidia for gpu, not because they are bad but being a cheaper options can be very profitable.

So, msrp of 4080 is $1600, at least for now, so we can expect that the MSRP of 7800 would be somewhere no less than $1250-1300.

If they manage to release rx 7700, which would be 4070 (4080-12) counterpart, the price would potentially be around $650-750.

So from there, we can expect that the rx 7600 soon to be msrp would be around say $400-450. Would that drop the price of 6650xt that is now $285?

well, I don’t think so, at least not by significant amount. You may save $30-40 max.

If I were you I’d anticipate Black Friday / Boxing Day sales more and aim for 6700xt because you may get it for $300 with Christmas Sale just around the corner. That’s what going to drop gpu price, not the new release. Not soon

all these prices assume you in USA. Prices vary across world.

I wish I could get the prices people in US got for hardware.

Yeah whenever I am in forum I try to refer US price. Or I’ll mentioned it’s Aus price, where I live. Man in Aus 4090 mostly sold out at $3400-3800 wth. Hahaha I mean, even if currency rate different it’s insane, the premium. hyped is real

I wonder if the 4090 TI will sell for 4090 in Australia. Probably more. Shame, it would be a perfect price. Well, not perfect but fitting.
I remember during 2020 the 3090 TI was close to 5k in Australia... I paid less than that for my entire PC. That is somewhat where I draw the line... one part shouldn't cost more than everything else.

I am in Australia too. I have plans that would be so much cheaper in USA.

I am waiting to see what price they put on 7800xt and then I think about buying something.

I sus the 4080 competitors from AMD in Aus will be around 1600-1900 AUD, assuming 4080-16 sold at $2000-2500. AMD keeps making themselves as cheaper option, though also slower, and it's proven profitable LOL. i love my 6800 xt, paid my tuf for 1100 aud. overkill for the price.

Man, Aussies in general got more money than Americans when it come s to hobby, alcohol, and gambling LOL. People here have that "it is what it is" mentality. Don't whine as much. While in the US people gone mad with current pricing

My pricing prediction here based on if they released their AMD7000 kind of cpu against Intel 13th. o, exception will then apply if AMD 7000 GPU performance towards NVIDIA 4000 is like AMD 5000 against Intel 12th, which is, literal trash, then yes, they can keep the price as low as possible. But that also means 7800 from 6800 will only be a minimum upgrade unlike NVIDIA 4080-16 from 3080ti, which the 4080 here smokes 3090ti without mercy.

AMD was very successful in term of their Ryzen 5000 series, though that thing is so much slower than Intel 13th gen, 5600x Vs 12600k is nowhere near comparable, but people, including me, went for 5600x because that thing is more than enough. So, with the GPU, they may actually repeat this strategy. Instead of making a huge jump like NVIDIA with their 4080-16 and 4090, AMD may be like, "F it, people don't need it now, let's just release minimal upgrade. LOL" Seeing from business perspective, they'd be far more successful in sales, if going with this approach. Which will leave 7800's price at what? 1200? maybe 1400 max. and that 7800's performance will be neck to neck with 4080-12 (4070), just like how RX 6800 is kinda neck to neck with 3070ti only better thing is VRAM and 4k ability. That's my 2nd prediction. LOL
