Should I wipe my HDD?

I posted on the forums a while back asking why I might be having super slow start-up times and lag when I shouldn't be. Most of the people said it is probably a virus and I should wipe my HDD. When I ran some scans with multiple things nothing came up, but the problem is still happening.
I was thinking about buying a second HDD on Cyber Monday, but would it be better just to wipe the one I have?

HDD: 2794GB Seagate ST3000DM

2) what anti virus
3) how full is hdd?
4) how long have you had hdd with same OS image? or how long have you had your computer?

remember, drives go bad all the time. i always get ones with good warranties, no matter how highly rated HDDs are

1) Windows 7
2) Avast, Malwarebytes
3) About 1T full
4) About a year in December

Have you tried CCCleaner? Likely a lot of crap on that HDD.
