Should monitor display something without CPU?

I've currently got a problem with my computer turning on but not displaying anything.

If I take my CPU out and turned the computer on without a CPU, should I still get something on-screen? Obviously, it won't fully boot, but can I at least expect SOME sort of visual feedback on the monitor? Even if it's just a blinking cursor or some courier new text against a black background?

Because if I should, then I can safely rule out the CPU as the problem.

How do you intend to get the GPU (or integrated graphics) to display anything if the processor isnt present to process the request.
