I don't know how high it gets when I am playing games, but when I am casually watching a youtube video it exceed's 80 degree's. Is it safe?

what kind of cooler are you using? I have heard of A series processors running that hot while sitting idle or doing minimal tasks like you have described, so technically it CAN run that hot, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with it. if you are using the stock cooler, I would replace it. AMD processors are known for including very poor cooling units, intels are too, preety much all stock coolers suck, but AMD is especially bad considering they run so hot. One VERRY popular choice for coolers on here is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Its cheap, and kicks butt in the price to performance market.

Really? I always thought amd overdrive was more confusing and innacurate. Where amd overdrive would show 40 degrees idle hwmonitor would show about high 20 to mid 30 degrees. Under load however on amd overdrive the temperature dropped down, and yes I said dropped down, to about 14 degrees Celsius. On hwmonitor it read about low 50s to mid 50s° Celsius. In the very unlikely chance this could be caused because I am using an FX series and not and a 10 series, i'm wondering which of the two programs is correct about CPU temperature

Actually, what I said isn't strictly true. AMD has stated that their CPUs don't measure actual temperatures, and a thermal margin of 15 isn't 15 degrees cooler than overheating, but you know it's cooler than a thermal margin of 10.

I like AMD's system, because people tend to flip out for instance when they see a temperature reading if 75c on an Intel chip, and think, "that's really hot", without realizing they can't use their intuition with these things. What's hot for a person is not hot for a CPU, and not all CPUs are the same.
