Should My Friend Wait For AMD Ryzen CPUs?

Hi! My friends specs are...
Amd Athlon X4 860k
8gb ddr3 ram
500w psu
Not sure of motherboard.

He wants to get an Intel I5, but it says he needs ddr4 ram, so he would need to upgrade ram, and motherboard for the CPU. If he got the new AMD cpu, would he need to upgrade his RAM?

He would need a new motherboard and RAM for any meaningful upgrade.
If he can wait, see how ryzen does.
If he desperately needs the upgrade, just do the upgrade.

Yes, AMD's new Ryzen CPUs will work with DDR4. They won't support DDR3. So it will be the same difference for him if he went with new Intel or AMD Ryzen. He may find a better deal on a good setup with Ryzen. Might be worth the wait.
