Should My Games Have Lag/FPS Drop??

Hey guys,
I've recently upgraded my rig yet still get a few drops in FPS now and again on newer games on low settings, here's my specs:

FX3300 3.8GHZ Quad Core
GeForce GTX 750ti 2GB
8GB Ram

My hard drive is quiet old (3/4 yrs) and is the next upgrade I will be getting but I just wanted to know if thats the reason I experience lag on some games or if it's something else.
I have all the latest drivers for my setup too, any help with this would be much appreciated.

Does your hard drive have an IDE or SATA connection? This connection type could definitely have an effect on gaming. Also, what are the games you're playing? What are they requiring for minimum system requirements?
