This year is new monitor year [I don't care what the wife says]

The question is should my next monitor be a 16:9 ratio 4k monitor or is the future 21:9 and therefore get a 3440x1440 monitor now?

Simple question.

Solution
16:9 no doubt. You''re going to have to rely on the community to fix the aspect ratio issues in games, because even recent games the 21:9 don't look right. That depends how picky you are of course. If you want to buy a 4k monitor, make sure it's size is big or if you're comfortable sitting ridiculously close to the screen, otherwise it'll be waste of money.

I personally have a 21:9, not the same resolution (2560x1080) but I'm absolutely in love with the extra screen left and right. Sure it may be a bit strange web browsing and watching videos having a lot of empty screen, but for things like multitasking, and gaming, it really is the best possible thing you could ever do, I would not change my monitor for anything else other than ultra widescreen, the experience is excellent. And plus on a more playful note, they just look insanely cool, being really wide.

The experience of 21:9, especially for gaming, is absolutely spectacular. Devs are starting to support 21:9 natively, and even if they don't, there's a ton of community help out there.

The width is also incredibly useful for video and music editing, and great if you're a browser tab ho (like me) who likes to have 40 tabs open at a time.

If you're planning on gaming, make sure you have the power to move 3440x1440. That's a lot of pixels to push. My 390x does well with my 2560x 1080, and even though I'd love to get more PPI, I just can't do it yet.

Nevertheless, I love my 29UM67, and at the price, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
