Should my Ryzen 7 2700x be overheating?

I've just upgraded my terminal and tested out BF1 in ultra and high settings, but CAM gave me a warning that my CPU hit 80c. Should it really be doing that? My GPU's temps are fine.

Try HWmonitor. Some cpu temp monitoring programs are not reading Ryzen correctly. CoreTemp says my cpu is currently at 95c lol.

AMD Ryzen Master is known to be accurate. Although I compared it to HWmonitor and they are the same and HWmonitor is more light weight.

So play BF1 for 10 minutes and Alt Tab out to look at the Package (Node 0) reading as well as the individual core readings. See what the temps are then.

FYI. Ryzen is safe upto 95c before it underclocks itself.

Yes and no. The 2700x is 105w TDP. The Wraith Prism is 140w. However, TDP is a value assigned after running a specific standardized set of apps, basically very moderate on the cpu, as that's going to be general usage. Peak power is max. Generally expect Peak Power to be @2x or a little higher TDP on your cpu before any OC. So slammed with high core usage, your cpu can hit @200+w stock on a 140w cooler. Gaming will top out at @70% of Peak, so figure @140w gaming on a 140w cooler. Yes, it'll hit 80's easily with stock vcore on a high core game like BF1, especially at high fps.

The Wraith cooler is more than enough for the 2700X
I would say it is your software as Lancerzero9 said.

Have a look at this - http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-ryzen-7-2700x-review,7.html
The temperatures are all normal running Prime which stresses your cpu to 100%.

Can't agree with what Karadjgne said though. I can't see the 2700x reaching 80C in a game unless you have OC'd the crap out of the 2700x

OC is Trixie when it comes to temps. Just raising the clock speed slightly and lowering vcore will actually lower overall temps. Stock vcore historically runs very high, so much so that it's quite easy to bump a 3770k from 3.5 to 4.3GHz and touch nothing but the multiplier. The reason for such high vcore is quite simple. Silicon lottery. Even at stock speeds there's variance in every single cpu produced. To guarantee full working stability for all cpus, the vcore is jacked. So, even at stock values, using a high thread, high usage game like BF1 can jack temps. OP would be better off if he did have some OC and lowered vcore etc.

With temps, like the ones you posted, you must also take at least 2 other factors into consideration. Ambient temps and airflow. These can and will affect cooling ability. The guru3d.com tests are all done on a open test bench at 22-23°C, not on a bad airflow enclosed case, sitting in a cubby in a room that's closer to 30°C

I just decided to get a water cooler. I'll fiddle with the speeds.... Once I figure out how to. I understand airflow. That's why my terminal sits to the right of my TV display, out in the open so it can breath.

Well you did only mention 3x front fans on that 570X, nothing about any exhaust, or if the fans are actually ramped to full speed, sitting idle at minimum rpm etc. If your fan curves are bunk and set to max out when the system temp reaches 70°C (that's default) you'll never get full speed out of the fans, even when the cpu is taxed. If the inside of the case (consider that to be cpu ambient temp) is 50°, then a 30°bump is entirely normal behavior. Most cases run @10°higher than room ambient at idle. Start bumping that with high gpu outputs and not enough air flow and 30° is easy to attain. You'd be surprised at the amount of posts I've seen where ppl have 5 intakes and no exhaust and their thinking was they were trying to max out as much air into the case as possible.

To answer directly, yes, 80°C is quite doable on an 8core/16thread cpu, even with the Wraith Prism (it's equitable to a hyper212 or Corsair H60, which is amazing for a stock cooler)
