My Asus Maximus IX Code had a panel that snapped into the pc case. I removed the motherboard and it stayed attached to the case. My new Dark Hero doesn't have one of these. Should there be one or does it matter? I'm talking about the piece that has a soft layer of aluminum colored padding behind the I/O labels.

The pictures on Asus website look like the panel is part of the motherboard -- https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-crosshair/rog-crosshair-viii-dark-hero-model/gallery

It's interesting, the pictures in the link you provided show the same silver trim around the I/O panel just like the Code had. The Dark Hero doesn't have the silver trim and looks like it's just built in without a removable face plate. The picture of all the accessories doesn't show it as a separate part either. I guess it's all good. The I/O panel fills up the opening in my case perfectly with no room to spare around the edges.
