[SOLVED] Should you update any driver through device manager?

Can anyone tell me the difference between updating driver of my GPU through "device manager/search automatically" and actually going to the manufacturer's website and downloading driver there.

Is the first option even viable or something that should be done?

From my experience, device manager usually does fine, but going to the website often makes the drivers more likely to function properly.

Updating through Driver Manager will only automatically install drivers from Microsoft's Windows Update servers when available and those can be several months out of date. For things like GPUs, the Windows Update drivers also won't contain GPU configuration utilities if you like tweaking things beyond basic display properties using Windows' control panel.
