I wanna build a comp with atleast a quad core proc and a 4890 graphics card. is it possible for 700-800$? thanks

Edit: Would it be better to get ati 4850x2 graphics card? thanks

We need a lot more information than that to make any good suggestions. You'll get a lot more help if you follow the format in the "How To Ask For New Build Advice" sticky at the top of the forum. We need to know the basics like what's included in the budget, what it will be used for, where you plan on buying the hardware, etc...

Shortstuffs build is good

but I would
replace the 4870 with the 4890

and downgrade the 750 w power supply to a corsair 650 tx which will be more than enough

how about that for a proc. is intel better than amd though, cause thats what ive heard. how would that amd compare to this intel?

Socket LGA775 is a dead socket now. So if you go with that intel you will not have an upgrade path of any sorts. You will have to replace the mobo and the CPU later down the road. AM3 just came out so that socket will last for awhile. As far as intel being better then AMD, its yes and no. Yes, if you do not have a budget or your budget is 1300=+ but AMD wins at the 1200 or so and less mark. My current build which is sitting at $823 uses the AMD Phenom2 X3 720. I am going to attempt to unlock its 4th core and if it works....well thats a quad core that will be overclocked to 3.4ghz+ (shooting for that mark) .

Shortstuff's build is dead on for your budget. My only recommendation, and it's just my opinion, would be to drop the 4870 and crossfire two 4850s for only $60 more. Still in your budget.
