So I bought a 14TB external WD drive for more organized backups (instead of 7 different HDD's in different sizes and ages, one single backup place will be nice).
I do have 2 external HDD trays on 5.25 bays, for direct SATA connections.
If the drive is 100% backup purpose, is there any benefit in shucking this drive? Back up process is usually an overnight process so small differences in speed I can't care less. My concern is data safety and longevity of the drive.

(1) Is there any evidence that powering the HDD is safer/better for longevity with PSU than the 12VDC adapter comes with the drive?
(2) Any evidence data transferred via USB has lower data integrity??
(3) if the SATA-to-USB device fails inside the external drive, (and the drive is fine) taking the drive out and connecting to SATA always recognized? any chance they use some different partition scheme that SATA cannot recognize?
