I am having problems with shutdown and standby modes on my pc. every time i
shutdown or go into the standby the pc hangs on the saving settings screen
for over 5 minutes then closes down. Anybidy else had this problem or know
how to fix it?

It used to work until i put a new power supply and cr writer into the
system. i have removed the cd writer but the problem is still there.

Power Supply - Levicom 550W ATX Ver 2
Motherboard - Asus A8NE
CPU - AMD 64 3800+
Graphics - Geforce 6600
DVDRW - NEC 3510
CDRW - Samsung
Windows XP Pro service Pack 2

All the latest drivers and firmware's installed

I would suggest running a disk cleanup, checkdisk, and defrag:

How to Perform Disk Error Checking in Windows XP

Afterward, install the following:

This is not much help, I fear, but I have noticed that XP is much
slower shutting down since post SP2. Not as slow as Win 2003 server
but maybe for similar 'security' check reasons, etc.

How did Carey Frisch's suggestions affect things?

Anyone got any other suggestions?
