Have decided to build my own PVR.

Will use either the 250/350 Hauppauge card

I want something LOW POWER since this unit will be on
all the time.

Are the SFF (small form factor) computers such as
Shuttle a good choice for low power and cool running?

Advice?

What are you worried about, the power bill? Just look at the power supply
ratings, that'll tell you the worst case scenario-about 250 watts for all
but the highest powered shuttles.

I use a SS51G for PVR and I think its great. Some complain of loud fans but
mine is QUIET and cool. When first powered on the fan runs at full speed
for about 2 seconds, but then quiets down a LOT. The fan never goes any
faster. I run a ATI 9200 Pro and Dvico Fusion III QAM card. 2.26Ghz P4.
Lovin it (after I got some problems figured out-but I like that stuff).

The blue power light is the most annoying part of it, but thats an easy fix.

Ho does power supply rating indicative of how much
juice the unit uses?

What you want is a processor that that can scale back in frequency and use
less power when not under heavy use. A mobile Athlon XP would be good
because of its low power usage and it can be used with standard Socket A
mobos.
