Aah well, was just a thought.
Realistically the fix being offered may be easy to do myself...the problem I'm having is finding out how lol 😀

just to wind me up more this is first time posting on here and it looks like Im tryin to sell summit....I finished that sentence with how I resent paying other company to fix a problem that is seemingly so common and also the responsibility of microsoft. Errorend did work for a year and all updates updated without any problems but now that year is over, if errorend can fix it for a fee microsoft can surely fix for free...is there a known fix yet?

lol, yeah sorry about that. Couldn't mess a question up more if I tried. I'd like to know if there is a microsoft fix that actually works and enables updates on vista?

I believe it's a legit copy, came on comp bought in store about 7yrs ago. It does seem to be a common problem with vista that when trying to install updates am given the message 'app data cannot be accessed'. I know I'm not alone with this and have tried so many downloads from microsoft site but still receive this message. I had no problem after paying for a programme for a year but feel that if the fix is out there maybe microsoft provide it for free. I have been in circles with this for a few yrs and am not computer savvy, not confident enough to go into drives/drivers and mess about, nor bothered to buy a new comp, I already bought a comp that runs on the vista system. does anyone know of a free download that works in same way as errorend plz? ty

1. I had never heard of "errorend" but in looking around, it seems to be one of the typical 'registry fix' scam applications. Do not give those people any more of your money. Delete that as soon as possible.

2. If your Vista is not updating properly, a full reinstall is suggested.

3. And if you're going to reinstall, dump Vista. Move to Win 7 or 8.

Oddly after my yr expired I found peeps online calling it a scam application but it actually worked and fixed the problems so I'm confused as to why it's a scam. I am still able to update windows updates, which I couldn't before named programme, but it fails again to update things like flashplayer and other programme updates, I receive again the 'cannot access app data' message. I think I will have to accept it's time to move on to a new comp and abandon vista like microsoft did. thanx for your help.

I think installing a new o/s would be a tad out of my comfort zone. Bearing in mind my comp is a 7yr old 64G laptop on vista I think it would probably be wise to move on and start afresh. I hear there's such a thing as a terrabyte now available on laptops also. Plus I messed up my comp when I pulled it out the box and tried to follow all the setting up a new comp instructions which included backing it up which I think I did onto itself leaving me about 10 free gigs from the start. I can only hope I have learnt a little since then.
I have never heard of ransomware before but have wondered if the companies offering these fixes that are paid for can be traced back as subsidiary companies of eg. microsoft. the term ransomware makes sense but my problems started before I installed any fixes...hence why I looked for a fix to start with. 🙁
