Hey

I have a pc case and its pretty old. I just wanted to ask where my side fans should be blowing. In or out? Theres 1 fan in front, 2 fans on the side and 1 in the back. Theres no top fan holes. At the moment the front is intake, the back is exhaust and the sides are exhaust as well. So what does my side fans be blowing?

Cheers

Solution
If you have a discrete Gpu with the side fans blowing out you create a negative preasure zone near the gpu fan and decrease the cooling of the gpu and increasing the gpu temp by (probably) a couple of degrees, also having three fans out and only one in you have negative preasure within your case and normally brings more dust into it that a positive preasure setting.

I will put the side fans blowing fresh air in to create more positive preasure in the case and give cool air to the Gpu fan.

Really? why are they bad?

They disturb the air flow massively, no matter if they blow or suck. Air should go in at the lower front and out at the upper rear. A side fan will just mess everything up.

ah okk. i might be changing cases in a few months tho so that's good. Cheers for the help.

Since you already have a rear fan as exhaust, I would suggest that you make the side fans as air intake, to serve for more efficient cooling of the case. Check this simple tutorial to determine whether your side fans are taking air into the case or serving as exhaust fans:

Check this recommended simple PC case airflow diagram:

Front and Side Fans as air intakes.
Rear and Top Fans as exhausts.

Even if you don't have Top fans, the rear fan would be more than enough to serve as exhaust while the front and side fans serve as intakes.

Wow thanks so much for that. it was really informative. im gonna follow it. also another thing, my PSU is on the back top of the case and the fan is facing down.

Cheers

Again if you look at the picture closely, where it depicts that PSU fan at the bottom would serve as air intake and hot air will exit through the holes of the PSU facing at the back side of the PC Case. It absolutely normal and nothing to worry about.

Cheers!
