I couldn't find this information anywhere, so i will ask here in this forum. My dad has an i7 980 X and he offered it (along with the motherboard) to me in trade of my current processor (also along with the mobo). My computer specs are

FX 8300 OC'ed to 3,6 GHz
RX 470 4gb
600w psu
8gb single-channel ddr3 1600 MHz ram

After going to cpu benchmark I decided to make the "upgrade" (sidegrade is a better word, really), since the performance of this i7 is better than of my current cpu. The only problems I'm stuck with are

1- Will windows 10 run on first gen core i7 processors?
2- Will my ram work on his Guerilla G1 gigabyte mobo? This is the most important for me since he is using 6 gb of triple channel ram.
3- In the occasion my memory does work, would 6gb triple channel be better than 8gb single channel with this processor and mobo? I plan mostly on gaming.
Thanks in advance.

Solution
1: Yes.
2: It depends on your RAM. From your dad's Nehalem until Ivy Bridge, Intel memory controllers could only use up to 4Gigabit chips on the DDR3 sticks (which is 512MB per chip). AMD can use up to 16Gigabit chips.
3: I would leave the RAM alone because you know they work where they are. Any AAA game that requires more RAM than this is also likely to need a faster processor to run well.
1. you can try install Windows it wont do any harm

2. Check with the Motherboards web site to see if ram is compatible
