Hi all,

I've seen a few builds lately with GPUs mounted sideways. As in, the GPU is rotated outward 90 degrees, allowing the shroud to face the outside of the case. This is purely for aesthetics.

I'm getting a MSI GTX 980 and was wondering how I can do this WITH my S340 case?

I've seen the 90 degree rotated PCI adapters for this purpose but I can't quite understand how I would support a card that's that's heavy like the MSI GTX980. I'm a handy guy so I can easily fabricate something. Was just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

P.s. I've looked around and can't find good answers.

Thanks

Looks they mounted to something custom for the back panel. The thing with it not being tied to the slot and pulling on a slot, is that supporting it in the back for good looks, it doesn't have to be super strong.

first you need a pci express riser like this one

https://www.amazon.com/Express-Riser-Extender-Flexible-Extension/dp/B008BZBFTG

then the problem is put the video card stable enough because the riser is just a extension to put it on another direction

in that image, they cut the case, placed a metalic shield to bolt the video card in it, the bracket form the card seems toi have been removed

the rear of the atx case is not meant to be used in that direction so lots of modifications are required

the case is not going to be the same anymore and the other pci ports behind the card will not be accesible anymore

in general, there is not experience on that modification

if your case comes ready to remove the expansion card area, it should be simple, if not, then you have to cut and solder, or reuse some screws

it is diy project in general

you discover the process as you go, otherwise, pay someone to do it for you

I'm not looking for an "in general" answer. I'm looking for someone who has done this with the s340 case or any other commonly used desktop case... I figured there was some fabrication needed. That's not a surprising discovery.

nor is surprising to me that you answer like this if you are asking for such modification that means cut a case to make it work with only one card, instead of 7 just because you want to see the fan spin and just stare at the window of that case :sarcastic:
