Sigh Crossfire not working

Alright guys I've been going out this for 3 hours and I'm not anywhere near close. I'm trying to crossfire a Radeon 6950 with a Radeon 4870. Here is what I've tried so far. Firstly put in both video cards and at this point there is no enable crossfire with the drivers which are the newest. Then I tried just the new 6950 to make sure it worked and it did. I put the 4870 in and it still won't give me the option to crossfire. I have the crossfire bridge attached.

All the times I have done this both video cards show up in the device manager and GPU-Z. They kinda do and don't show up in the Catalyst Control Center. I'll list what it says at the bottom under Hardware. Also this is a X-58 Platinum SLI LGA motherboard that is okay to do crossfire on. I've uninstall and reinstalled every driver and it still will not give me the option in the Catalyst Control Center for crossfire.

What am I doing wrong? Any help or ideas will be thanked.

Uhm, well I don't know much about crossfire, but I thought the first two numbers had to match for the cards to be compatible?

So you can crossfire a 6950 with any other 69XX card, or a 4870 with a 48XX, but not the two together. As far as I know anyway, I'm sure someone will be along to drop some knowledge on your question real soon.

You have to crossfire the same series together ie an hd5850 can be crossfired with an hd5870,however the clocks on the hd5870 will be lowered to match the hd5850 in most cases, you can crossfire a hd6990 with a hd6950 in tri-fire because there from the same series.You can't crossfire cards from different series unfourtunately.Your best bet would be to sell the 4800 series and get another 6900 series card! best of luck!

You have to crossfire the same series together ie an hd5850 can be crossfired with an hd5870,however the clocks on the hd5870 will be lowered to match the hd5850 in most cases, you can crossfire a hd6990 with a hd6950 in tri-fire because there from the same series.You can't crossfire cards from different series unfourtunately.Your best bet would be to sell the 4800 series and get another 6900 series card! best of luck!

I have a Radeon hd 6850 crossfire with an onboard Radeon HD 4250 and they work together, however...any catalyst drivers I've installed after version 1.15 has disabled it and i tried everything to get them to work again to no avail. I went back to version 1.15 and my card is now crossfired again. I think it has something to do with the new drivers not being updated for compatibly with the older Hd 4250

I'm talking about compatibility with dedicated cards, The 4250 is an integrated onboard chipset,so of course any card will work with that if the motherborad utililizes hybrid crossfire technology
