[SOLVED] Significant drop in performance from one day to the next...

Hi all,
I've had an issue for a couple of days now and scratching my head over it. Been browsing the forums in the hope of finding an answer without success. Hope that I could get some input and help here

My in-game performance tanked drastically out of the blue, I am also noticing some slow down in windows as well. The previous day everything was fine and the next, I turned on my PC, launched a game for my 1 - 2h session, and BAM, fps down to 10ish. Tried WoW, Assassin creed valhalla, Forza 4 and deep rock galactic... Its a constant drop in performance no spike or sudden drops...

To note that the bootup time was as fast as usual.

What I did :

• scanned for viruses/malware with 2 antiviruses (Bitdefender and Malwarebytes), nothing found
• updating my video drivers, to no avail
• going through task manager to see if anything hogging memory/CPU or GPU, nothing out of the ordinary
• looked at temperature, power consumption, and GPU usage when running a game, GPU is on idle, not outputting as it should for a game. CPU and GPU are in the normal temp range of 40ish
• updating win10 with the last updates, had a couple of updates but did not resolve the problem,
• looked in update history if any updates were installed since the previous day, nothing for win 10, but I noticed a driver update for my CPU. not sure if I can consider this as the source of the problem
• though that it might be an HDD issue, tried launching a game from my system HDD and another from my second one (both SSD), same problem.

my configuration:
- I7 8700K 3.7 GHz - ASUS Prime Z390-A - EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G3 gold - EVGA RTX 2080 XC ultra - 16 GB G Skill Ripjaws (2x8) - Main HDD: Samsung 512GB 970 NVMe M.2, 2 other SSD and 1HDD

I am planning to try, in order :

• clean install of video drivers with ddu
• trying each one of my RAM stick alone
• update bios
• hdd check, which tool would be best?
• memory check, memtest86
• windows clean install

So far, with the current symptoms, I am leaning towards a software issue being the culprit. I hope. If you guys have any ideas on what else I can do here it would be great!

monitor is connected to the GPU and not the motherboard?

check windows integrity

check the memory by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)

check the hard drive for errors with its manufacturer´s tool

use ddu uninstaller and reinstall the latest graphics driver

thanks for the quick post. I will go through those steps and revert back asap! really hope to find the culprit and most importantly hope that its not too bad!

So, had more time to do some digging after work.
benchmark results. Clearly an issue on the GPU side.
Tried to do a clean install of drivers with DDU and nothing changed.
Had a look at Precision X1 from EVGA and my card is clocked at 300MHz and not changing a bit, in or out of games.

Try the card in the 2nd slot on the motherboard.

Damn, I found the culprit. Jeez. it was EVGA Precision x1. for some reason it throttled my card at 300MHz.
Reason I uninstalled was the software was bugging and preventing me from manually OCing and wanted to go to afterburner instead.
Damn sorry I bothered you guys on this. happy that it nothing serious though

don´t forget to set the XMP profile in BIOS, to clock the RAM to 3200 instead of 2133MHz
