I recently purchased a Gigabyte 970A-UD3P and after installing it and setting up all of the drivers, I noticed something peculiar about the internet adapter. Instead of getting my previous 160 mb/s download speed, I was getting 60 mbp/s. I have been looking around for a few weeks on the matter and nobody seems to be having the same issue I am having. To clarify, it is not my network, it has to be something wrong with the motherboard because I disabled the wireless in my laptop and used the cat5 that connects my Gigabyte board to my network to speedtest with results that were around 160 mbp/s download. Thank you in advance for helping me with this issue.

Solution
There is a small chance that your LAN card has some misaligned contacts (or broken contacts) in which case all you can do is RMA the board or get a stand alone LAN card.

Drivers wont fix this.

edit: a new cable might solve it if the contacts in the socket are only misaligned, Its the cheapest test as you only need 1 small cable to test saving you the hassle to RMA or buy a new lan card
go into network and sharing -> change adapter settings ->right click on your LAN adapter being used and click status:

Speed should be 1.0Gbps; if it isn't that means you either have an incompatible cable or there;s a problem at your router.

If you do see 1.0Gbps then make sure you reset your router settings as there might be some filtering/throttling going on.

To make a 1gbps connection you need:
1.compatible LAN card - > yours: Realtek® GbE LAN chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)
2. compatible 8 wire cable -> if you have a problem somewhere on that cable, when you move it around one or more wires might lose contact and thus reverting to 100mbps.
3. router settings -> there might be specific settings limiting full 1000mbps but can be solved with a reset.

Give me a link of your router make and model.

So i'm guessing you were using wireless on the laptop which is 5ghz AC (capable of running well over 100mbps) while you are limited to a 100mbps speed on the desktop using the LAN - makes sense you'd get a lower speed on the PC.

Its either the cable or your ISP (i'm betting its the ISP router they provided) hasn't configured the router properly in which case you should call them.

To further refine my latest reply, I unplugged the cat5 from the gigabyte mobo and plugged it into my laptop with the wireless disabled. It results in 1.0gbps on the laptop with 100mbps on the desktop using the same cable and the same router.

its not the gigabyte lan thats the problem i can tell you that.

Like i said - either the cable is bad (sometimes it works other times it doesn't) or they made specific settings on that router for your laptop or whatever you were using at the time. I would call the ISP and get a new cable to be sure.

Solution
The problem is solved, it ended up being a mixture of the cable I was using was shot (the gigabit pins were not allowing for electricity to go through) and that the port in my wall was not allowing for gigabit, I plugged the new cable directly into the router and that fixed it.
