Hi,

I'm trying to find a very silent case.

I've been using the Antec Sonata III for 3 years now and i really like the design. But I also saw the Coolmaster Sileo 500 that seems to ve very well isolated. If i could actually get the design and dust filter from the Sonata and the sound isolation of the Sileo 500, i'd be in heaven hehe

Any recommendations ?

A silent case needs to have huge fans and be very big...

-Huge fans can move the same amount of air as small cans whlie spinning much slower resulting in being very quiet. A big case is quieter because it usually has larger fans and doesn't require as much plus it muffles sounds inside of it since air currents are winning through it in small holes at high speeds.

Take a look at the menu in the right hand column. There is a link to recommended cases in the lower half of that menu.

There's also a link someplace there to an article about a silent pc that does not have any moving parts. It's what's known as a passive cooling system.

You should check out the Silverstone Fortress 2. Looks to me like the only case in the market that can achieve BOTH great thermal performance and quietness at the same time. Has dust filter on every intake fan like you want it and is a positive air pressure design to boot. That almost gaurantees zero dust buildup. Acoustic foam pre-installed on every panel plus loads of other great features. I'm about to whip out my credit card to get one myself. I'll let you know how it turns out.

If you're looking for a similar size case, but quieter than the Sonata III, then look at the Antec SOLO (if you don't need a PSU) or the Antec Sonata Plus 550. Both are much quieter than the Sonata III.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions !

I was looking a the Silverstone FT02, but it looked a bit big. Looking at the dimension, I confirmed it hehe

So I took a look at the Silverstone FT01 instead and the dimension are smaller which is perfect for me. Any input on this one ?

The FT01 won't be silent like the FT02 because of it's design. There are also the Raven 1 and 2 which using stack effect cooling like the FT02, but it looks like they are even bigger than the FT02.

BULLSH*T!!!

Im running a mini p180 with 2 120mm fans, 1 200mm fan, cpu v8, stock vid and stock psu, all at lowest possible setting

and getting really good temps.

Im Oceing with a pretty high vcore, and getting no higher than 58C under load.
video not above 54C

EDIT: And yes it is quiet

Yup, I agree. It's BS. He obviously hasn't seen a great case design like the Silverstone Fortress 2 or the Ravens or the Thermalright R1x.

However, you have a 65w Athlon II. Those chips run so cool you can stick a fanless heatsink to it and it won't pass 50degC under load.

Sempron 140 OCed to 3510MHz @ 1.35v
Thermalright Ultima 90 FANLESSS!!!
ASUS 785g
2 x G.Skill 2GB PC12800
Cooler Master Cosmos S with the 230mm side fan off. The rest of the fans in stock configuration spin at < 800rpm.

Cool n Quiet = ON
C1E = OFF

20 mins of Prime95 (in-place large FFT's)
CPU core temp = 50degC

The OP was asking about the Sileo 500 that's very quiet and basically the size of his Sonata III. I agree that a larger case can be cool and quiet, but not everybody wants a large case. I know that the Silverstone cases are very good, but they're quite large.

The P180 should be as quiet as the Sonata III, but not as quiet as the Sonata Plus 550 or the Sileo 500.

I've been looking around at Silverstone and Lian Li.

I guess I posted quite fast and I shouldve added more requirement on my side hehe

Anyway, so far the cases i've been considering:

Silverstone FT01
Lian Li PC-10B
Antec Sonata Plus 550

You'll notice that the style is very "normal".

What is making the choice a bit harder now is:

Silverstone FT01 runs high temperature from video card (from the benchmark i've read).
Lian Li PC10B doesn't have dust filters
The build quality of the Antec Sonata Plus looks a bit "normal". Besides the foam on the side panels, nothing else is appealing to me hehe

Indeed, very pleased with the antec tri-cool fans. (used in mini p180)

Fans i would advice the most of all are:

sharkoon silent eagle

they have this special golfball texture on the blade. they move about twice as much air as any other fan of equal dimentions and at same rpm speed. Im using a 2000 rpm one on a fan controller, which is now running between 900-1000 rpm, and it is inaudible. (literally). Antec tri-cool 200mm is louder at 400 rpm

I still advice a case from the Performance series from antec. they are just really stunning. please just read an in depth review! (suggest spcr)

although if you want more silent, (which i cannot personally imagine), you can try loading it with only sharkoon fans.

If you like your Sonata so much why blow money on a new case? Why don't you just install acoustic foam on it and you can have everything you want?

I have a static problem with the front bezel of the Sonata III that took me forever to find out why the random reboot occured. This is a huge turn down from Antec for me. I don't remember saying i loved my Sonata III so much and there's a reason why I want to change it. Looking a the Silverstone and Lian Li, I know cooling, silence, look and solid product can be put into one case. Just trying to figure which one would suit me better.

Wrong, if you have a cheap crappy case with cheap crappy fans...then yes, but higher quality stuff will allow very good ventilation and be really silent. Larger fans can compensate for slower spinning and move same amount of airflow. Plus fan design quality and structure also can effect this. Eitherway, look at the corporate world...go into any office building with cubicles...there are hundreds of computers and it remains awfully quiet there? and all the computers being as small and compact as they usually are, are cooled extremely well and are unaudible
