I'm pretty underwhelmed by the EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming. I saw much larger performance difference between my 1080ti vs my 970 than the 3080 vs 1080ti. Perhaps I got sucked into all the hype but it was really and frequently portrayed as running RDR2 4k @60FPS Ultra, and I'm not getting that at all.
So Jared has a great article here: How Much CPU Does the 3080 Need?
My current build is similar to Jarred's i7-4770k OC (I have the 4790k stock with kraken x62 water cooling temps are usually at 35-40c under 4k gaming). Same ram, different ssd but plenty fast, and higher psu (900w/950w can't remember which one).
When I benchmark Red Dead Redemption on 4k Ultra I don't get average 70fps, mine is more around 46fps with a low of 35fps. I'm using a tv that caps at 60 so I'm curious why can't I get avg 60fps?
Is there some button on Precision X1 I need to click for the 3080 FTW3 UG to run in "game mode" or "boosted game mode"? (I have no idea how to use precision x1). Kind of sucks because I was so excited to use this card once I got it but I feel it isn't living up to the hype.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
(side note, I am planning to move to an Ryzen 5 3600 and a Ryzen 9 5000x but can't figure out if I should stick with B550 or X570).
