I just picked up a 34" ultrawide LG 34UM88C monitor. The recommended resolution for this monitor is 3440 X 1440. Unfortunately my motherboard's (Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H) on board graphics can only power up to 2560X1600 therefore I need to get a graphics card. I phoned Gigabyte and asked them for a recommendation and they said for this board I should get either GTX 970 or 960. I started looking at those and was shocked to see that these cards are quite expensive. I was under the impression that old technology like that would be quite inexpensive. Instead I'm only seeing prices of $250+.

Can someone recommend a simple card for me that will run the monitor at the recommended resolution? I don't play any games. My usage is productivity and watching some TV shows or movies. I was hoping to get a satisfactory card for under $100. Is that possible?

Thanks.
