Simple RAM Question

Hello every,

I have just setup up my first gaming tower and essentially have 6 gigs of RAM. When I look on Windows 8.1 pro, it tells me I do have 6 gigs, but only 1.95 are usable. I am wondering if there is a way to raise the amount usable and if so, how?

Which version of windows did you install? That is the first bit of information we will need to know because 32bit and 64bit have different memory limitations.

Did you install windows 8.1 32bit or 64bit?
What motherboard do you have?
What type of video adapter (GPU) do you have?

Yep could be a 32bit OS.
Need 64 bit to access memory fitted to the system.

I have an MSI 970A-G43 Mobo, I am not sure what type of ram but it's a 4 gb Corsair Ram card and a generic 4 gb card, an AMD RADEON 8320 cpu, AMD RADEON HD 6770 gpu and Windows 8.1 pro 64x bit

Planning on upgrading my gpu to a 7970 once I get my tax return, currently trying to get my p.c. to take advantage of at least 4 gb of RAM so I can play Battlefield 4.

Originally you said 6GB of DRAM, now in the latest post you say two different 4GB sticks of DRAM - what are the model #s of the sticks
