My PC abruptly gave me a warning popup today stating "Windows detected a hard disk problem," and when I clicked "show details" it indicated problems with not one, but two HDDs. Both are 4TB Hitachi HDS5C4040ALE630 hard drives, identical in every way except for their contents.
I ran CrystalDiskInfo for confirmation, and it does indeed show both drives failing the "spin retry count," with values of CURRENT=1, WORST=1 and THRESHOLD=60 for both. Is it possible that each of the identical twin hard drives would suddenly and spontaneously fail the same S.M.A.R.T. test with the same results, or is this more likely a controller (or some other) issue? It should be noted that neither is making any unusual noises or exhibiting any visible read/write problems.
Thanks to anyone who can shed a little light on this.
