Since Moving to the New Forum System..

The day Tom's Hardware moved to this new system for the online forum a few weeks (or months) ago, I noticed things slowed down. Whereas before there was a quickness to switching between pages of the forum, it now takes several seconds to show certain pages. There is a noticeable delay.

Same thing happened at my job when we switched to a new online system.

Is this a new age of slow internet?

Why do things slow down?

In this case I suspect it is the basic setup of the database. Whereas before they cached and indexed everything they now limit it to the root level. Like New Posts, Trending, etc. The other sections that are more specific act like live queries to me.

Growth of the database size is likely the reason. Prioritize resources to the data you want people to get to quickly and hold back on everything else.

threads with your posts takes ages to load too
