hey guys
im installing the HUGE Depcool Lucifer on my MSI Z97 Gaming 7
and unfortunately i own 4*2 GB of corsair vengeance RAM
my cooler is taking up the first two RAM slots
which means ill have to shift the RAM to the last two RAM slots on my board
as a result the RAM will only work in single channel now ( since the board supports dual channel on alternate slots i.e. 1st-3rd and 2nd-4th)

so how does downgrading from dual to single channel affect performance?
especially in gaming

Possibly up to 10-15% Have you tried raising the fan, it is height adjustable with the metal side clips on it. Can also reverse the fan and put it to the back so it pulls air in over the fins and out the back exhaust

i have corsair vengeance so the fan will have to be adjusted way too high which obviously will affect performance and i also have doubts that the height of the fan will adjust with my side panel of the case

secondly reversing the fan on the other side will interfere with the rear exhaust fan on my case

any other suggestions?

well the idea is to get the most out of your money

could i just remove the rear exhaust fan and place it on the top of my case as an intake directly blowing fresh air onto the heatsink
can the fan on the heatsink work as an exhaust for my case?

or i could do a minor mod to my case and place the rear exhaust fan on the outside of my case
what do you say about that?

hey man
i was able to install the lucifer without a problem
had to install it in a pull configuration
the rear fan was no interference at all
there is still an inch of gap between the cooler fan and rear exhaust
was able to keep my ram in dual channel

thanks a lot!

I have see a few things that suggest that a single stick vs dual of the same size would not experience any noticeable difference outside of benchmarks, simulations, parametric analysis and video editing. Some go as far as stating that gamers, mainstream users, and office users shouldn't care (outside of heavy copy sets).

My question is, what loss should i expect, in the realm of gaming, when using 2x 8GB sticks in channel B as compared to dual channel in A & B (channel A took a dump and I cant get Asus to honor the warranty because one of the retention clips broke while I was swapping memory to test the issue) ?
