Single GPU decisions

I've decided not to get the ATI X1900XTX. Due to me not wanting to blow all my money away, and the sort, I've chosen the AI X1900XT. No X =)

My question was, it's memory speed is 100 MHZ slower, and it's core speed 25 MHZ slower. They are exactly the same card, just tiny core differnces right? I'm going to get a GPU cooler, probably the ZALMAN VF900. With that, couldn't I OC the sucker to XTX speeds?

Memory and core speed are both only 25 mhz slower.

There is actually no physical difference as far as the core goes, alot of people are BIOS flashing their X1900 XT's to X1900 XTXs.

A 25 mhz bump is nothing.

Awesome, so I save some money with a bit overclocking right?

Core is 25mhz slower, but the memory is 100 MHZ slower. I believe the timing on the XTs is a little slower as well.

THe XTX's aren't that much more than than the XT's now. $50 or even less.

Is it worth the extra hassle to flash the card (potentially trashing it), OC it to XTX speed(Still slower memory. In theory, you should be able to OC a XTX higher than a XT too.) for $50? Up to you.

I'd go with an X1900XTX, it's not much more, and like Orb said, BIOS flashing could has a potential of ruining the card. Then your out of a lot more than $50 additional for the X1900XTX. Better safe than sorry, but that's just my opinion.

Core is 25mhz slower, but the memory is 100 MHZ slower.

The specs are:

X1900 XT:
625 core
625 (1250 DDR) memory

X1900 XTX:
650 copre
650 (1300 DDR) memory

If the memory is 100 Mhz slower, the card is not to spec...

We're both wrong, it's 50 mhz.

The memory speeds are:
XTX - 775MHz
XT - 725 MHz

Well, stupid memory failed me. But I knew it was 25 mhz less for both core & memory... most reviews show the X1900 XT to be 750 and the XTX to be 775.

25 Mhz (50 mhz ddr) difference. Where did you see the 725 Mhz number? I keep seeing 750/775.

Every manufacturer site I go to has them listed as 725MHz and 775MHz for their cards.

ATI has them listed at 1.55 GHz and 1.45 GHz which is:
1.55/2 = 775 MHz
1.45/2 = 725 MHz

Anyway, small enough that it wouldn't matter on anything but benchmarks I guess.

I don't know why they even bother selling those XTX's. Except because there are idiots out there. Ok, nevermind....
I'd go for a XTX if buying today. The HIS XTX is $449, just $20 more than the cheapest XT, which after rebate also is a HIS.

Actually since I can't find the X1900 IceQ 3 models, no doubt my buy would be the XTX or the X1800XT below.
HIS X1900XTX $449 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161169
HIS X1900XT $428 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161168
HIS X1800XT 512MB $329 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161159
