I recently bought a Rampage V Extreme Mobo from Asus which uses the x99 chipset.

It has support for quad channel memory, but I don't want to delve into the price of quad channel ddr4 just yet. Newegg has a single stick of 4gb ddr4 on sale.

I am going to upgrade to some mean quad channel ddr4 in the future. But right now I just want some cheap ram so I can run and play with my system. What (if any) are the consequences of using a single stick of ram in a quad channel mobo? Any help would be much appreciated.

Solution
You'll be in single channel. The majority of software is not bottlenecked by ram so it might not even make a difference. Just 4gb ram might be an issue.
