Hi guys,

Need some advice here. We have a heavily traffic website and are trying to upgrade our server. Currently we are running a single Xeon E5645 2.4GHz, but are moving to a new server with dual Xeon L5520 2.26GHz processors. We were told that the new configuration would be significantly better, but through my own research I feel like the difference may be negligible. We need the difference to be at least 30% positive. It is not too late to go back to the drawing board, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

going from 1cpu with 6c/12t to dual cpu 4c/8t (8c/16t total) Without knowing the servers workload I don't know if this will be the boost your looking for or not. For instance if the server is just serving up webpages then you are much better off upgrading the storage susbsytem for higher i/o.

We are running a SQL database so the real bottleneck that we have found is at the CPU level with multiple read/writes. More or less I just want to know that we are moving in the right direction.
