I want to convert a new 1Tb Sata hd to Pata for use in an old Win Xp computer circa 2001. Can anyone confirm a guaranteed sata to pata hardware bridge conversion board? Research shows some boards end up
shorting hd. I want to save old system for now and plan to use 1Tb drive in
new system when I can find a job and afford a new one. Thank you for any help.

Thank you so much for the prompt and concise response to my post. I will look
into both. If you don't mind I would also like to ask if you know of any issues
with using such a large (1TB) HD with pata limitations? Recognition, partition,
speed etc? Is a 500G HD a wiser choice? And finally, any thoughts on brands
in particular Seagate vs WD? Thanks again hang-the-9.

Never tried it with that size, but there may be issues, especially with the computer and the old BIOS and motherboard not seeing the drive. You should check with the support site for your computer to make sure it will see a drive of the size you are looking to get.

An external drive may be better to get if you are using this for storage. Get one with USB and eSata so you can use the faster eSata port with the new PC (assuming it will have one). Or get a network drive. You will have 0 issues if the drive is on the network.

WD has had better quality than Seagate, Samsung is a good brand to look at also.
