Size of my webpage/font size

Whenever I open IE the webpage only fills a quarter of the screen (have Windows 7 Home Premium): how do I get it to fill whole of screen every time? Also the font size (also with Hotmail)is small. I am a computer idiot so please guide me in SIMPLE steps. Thank you. John.
