Hi,

I am planning to build a skylake system in a few months but would like to get some opinions on what the specs should be?

I do not need to include an OS as I can get them for free via my workplace.

Build needs to be £1000 roughly, can go slightly higher if need be!

Solution
You will need a larger power supply if you plan to do crossfire in the future with this build.
If you do not want an optical drive simply remove it from this design.

Solution

If you'll build it in a few months any config with today's parts will be outdated as many interesting stuff is coming out from both nvidia and amd. And, btw, you should wait for that.

Ok, well come June Op should wait till August because of New Intel CPUs
Ok, so Op makes it to August and we tell him to wait for the first of the year because of new AMD Zen CPUs.

Its not healthy to worry about what is just around the corner. Buy what you need today. Now if Op had a decent Graphics card already then I'd be ok with Op waiting till June to see how the new NVidia and AMD GPU's affect the market.

I am going to be using it for mainly for gaming in 1080p but will be looking into a 1440p monitor soon. It will also be used for my coding projects and some rendering work

Thanks for that!

This is mainly what I had in my part list already. I may however change the graphics card to an Nvidia card

This is true but whenever you build a pc it'll become outdated in a few months time. So I am not too worried about it about a new generation CPU coming out etc

The computer I designed is overkill for most coding, and underwhelming for rendering. Ideally for rendering you would have a Xeon or i7, 6 or 8 core CPU.
For gaming the i5-6600k is ideal. AMD's graphics cards tend to do well at 1440p and at 4k resolutions compared to their competition.

Ofcourse you buy what you need today and don't worry about whats coming out, but OP stated he's building in a couple of months. Adn i was mainly reffering to waiting for the GPU updates. I would not buy a graphics card today. Period.
