I got a skylake i5 6600 cpu and stuck fan is mounted on it. I didn't apply any thermal paste since the cpu fan comes with thermal paste on it. So I run GTA V and monitor cpu temperature using MSI afterburner. Under 95% load cpu reaches 70 to 74 degrees mostly around 70 degrees celsius. Is this temperature normal? If not what can I do to lower the temperature? cpu temperature when idle is around 45 degrees. Thank you.

70 degrees is safe. Anywhere below 80 is a safe temperature for processors.

As far as I know some Intel processors can go until 105°C.

If you're really worried, buy an aftermarket thermal paste along with a decent AIO Watercooler.

If you don't want to spend much, go with the EVO as suggested.

Here's a pretty good article on intel cpu thermals.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html

Around 70c isn't the end of the world, still within safe even if it's a bit on the warm side. Over 100c is pushing the throttle limits of the cpu and not what I would consider safe at all, more like an indication to immediately address the thermal problem. A 212 evo or cryorig h7 would definitely work better and are fairly inexpensive. No reason to spend as much as aio coolers cost for a locked cpu, even the stock cooler is doing 'ok'. An aftermarket air cooler would be more than plenty.

Another thing to consider is what pc case, how many fans and where are they positioned along with ambient room temps. Those will all have an effect on cooling, more than what brand of thermal paste will.

I have the same cpu clocked at 4.5 GHz, using noctua nh-u12s and with an ambient temp of 24C, my idle temp would hover around 28C-29C and under 100%(stress test) load it gets up to 59C. So like what others are saying on here you can do better with an aftermarket cooler.

Edit: Sorry, I actually have an i5-6600K.

I have the same processor, running with thermal paste coolermaster-extreme-fusion-x1 along With cooler from zalman CNPS5X Performa

On idle it stays at 20 , 25 celsius. Heavy load wont pass 35, usually 30 degrees celsius. Also 2 side fans and one fan in the back of the tower
