Skype freezes the computer

I have windows 8.1 and whenever i use skype it freezes the computer. i have even tried using the desktop client but the problem still persists. when i try to call or recieve a call the whole computer freezes

Try opening task manager and seeing if Skype uses excessive resources at any time.

it doesnt when i login. after that i cant check as when i try to make a call the PC instantly freezes

Run a deep malware scan with https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Also worth mentioning: Skype has started running a lot of ads recently, if I'm not mistaken close to all of them use hardware acceleration. If your GPU has a problem with that it might be the cause of the crashes.

This issue has been effecting me. I had to swiitch to Oovoo, which pales in comparison. In my case, excessive resources ARE being used and if I try to launch skype everything freezes and I am forces to shut down my PC. I haven't been able to find a solution online for this and I miss my skype.

it used to work fine till about last 1 month or so. i didnt use it for 2 or 3 weeks after that. and now i cant call at all!

i've already checked for malware! malware bytes found 1 and i deleted it but still it made no difference to skype

Okay well it seems like there are widespread issues. You need to wait until Skype issues an update.
